Waste not, want not! These bottle openers are made from pieces of solid wood left over from cutting the wood used to build our
OCS custom ukuleles. The pieces are carefully chosen and arranged to create beautiful symmetry in this functional tool.
These sustainable openers are made from off-cuts of the ukulele-making process, including necks, fretboards, and various body parts. This ensures hardly any wood at the shop goes to waste, and that the bottle openers are made of the finest materials in the shop, which would otherwise not be used in such a product.
The process is time- and labor-intensive: first, all the off-cuts are accumulated, then each is drum-sanded individually so they all have flat glue surfaces. Pieces are hand-picked and arranged in various patterns, glued together into a blank, then further drum-sanded and cut on the band saw into ukulele-shaped blocks. They are CNC-machined to shape, hand-sanded, and laser-engraved on both sides with a logo and design made in-house. Finally, a few coats of paint are sprayed, and the opener and magnets are added to complete the build.
