Ukulele program with Boys & Girls Club of Venice

Ohana had the unique opportunity to work with Boys & Girls Club of Venice (BGCV) via their ukulele program. The partnership began when Music and Performing Arts coordinator, Shane Basye approached Ohana Music owner, Louis Wu, at the NAMM Show in Anaheim. “Shane came up and introduced himself to me, and proceeded to tell me about his plan of developing a ukulele program at BGCV for the kids and youth in the community,” Louis Wu explains. “Shane was looking for someone who shares the mission of helping youth in the community through music. We at Ohana always believe in the power of music, and especially its impact in children. It is this common belief in music, and the desire to provide the opportunities to our youth that led us on this journey of partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Venice.”

BGCV Ukulele Program

Ohana provided the ukuleles BGCV needed to help kicktstart the program. The ukulele program currently houses different age groups in a beginning class that teaches children the basics needed to learn to play and maintain the ukulele. The long term goal for the program is to eventually include different levels of playing so kids can progress and refine their skills and technique as a player.

BGCV provides extraordinary tools and resources with their music programs that help the youth achieve their goals and reach their full potential. Ohana is proud to be a part of what BGCV do in their community and youth outreach! We look forward to working with BGCV to continue to bring opportunities to the youth.

We are lucky to have partners like [Ohana Music]! I am looking forward to another incredible school year in our Music Lab.
