Ohana Questions and Answers

When we get questions that may interest others, we will add them here. Keep in mind, you can always contact us directly with questions, too.

  1. Where Can I buy Ohana Products?
  2. Can you sell products directly to me, an end user?
  3. Can your products be ordered "customized?"
  4. What is your product warranty?
  5. What care is recommended for Ohana Ukuleles?

1. Where can I buy Ohana Products?

Our products are available across the United States (and many other countries as well.) We have a network of quality dealers that can help you find the right instrument for you and put it in your hands. We have dealers that have physical store locations, some dealers that are online only and some that offer both. It shouldn't be hard to find someone with that Ohana product that you have your eye on. Check our dealer listings. If you still need help, contact us and we'll do the legwork for you. We also accept suggestions of quality stores that you might believe should carry Ohana products.

2. Can you sell products directly to me, an end user?

No, that is why we have a wonderful dealer network of quality stores with concientious trained people that would love your business. As a manufacturer, we depend on our dealers.

Additionally, we have no infrastructure for direct sales to users. If you want something, however, we will move mountains from our end to make sure you can buy it! Again, if you are having trouble sourcing Ohana products, contact us and we'll get on it. We love helping users get the products they want and/or need!

3. Can your products be ordered customized?

Very possibly! For instance,if you would like an instrument with a different set of tuners or strings and your local dealer cannot help directly, we may be able to supply the instrument set up the way you want for a nominal charge. Contact your local dealer or send us an idea of what you are looking for (and include your dealer's name and info) and we will investigate getting you the instrument exactly like you want it to be. You're the boss!

4. What is your warranty or guarantee?

We offer a standard warranty of (XX) months that covers defects in materials or workmanship. Beyond that, we endevor to assure that every Ohana customer is delighted with their purchase and will do the same for you, should you choose one of our products. Please understand, however, that better musical instruments are precise and tuned devices and need proper care to remain at their best. See the next answer for our recommendations on care.

5. What care is recommended for Ohana Ukuleles?

Our instruments are not difficult to care for properly. Honestly, they are not "flowers" meant only to be gazed at and admired! They are "Made to be Played."

However, they are handcrafted mostly from wood, a natural substance whose characteristics benefit from a "little" attention.

First, consider a case for your ukulele. A good case will protect it from incidental damage in handling and keep it looking new. Cases range from "really affordable" to "really deluxe" so there is one for every instrument and owner. Keep a soft cloth in the case and give the instrument a "quick wipe" before putting it away after playing.

Second, wood can experience seasonal changes. We recomment an in-case humidifier be kept in the case if you live in an area that experiences dry times during the year, either in the general environment or in the interior spaces when heated or air-conditioned. There are lots of good and small humidifiers for inside-the-case on the market and they are cheap insurance from over-drying the wood in your instrument.

Third, avoid extremes of heat and cold. Here is a rule of thumb: if you are comfortable, your ukulele probably will be too! Again, a good protective case helps in those times you are transporting an instrument.

If your ukulele has friction tuners and gets very warm, the strings may loosen. This usually just requires retightening and tuning the ukulele when it is back at room temperature.

If your instrument gets very cold, let it come up to room temperature before playing and handling it just to be safe.

Understand, we don't often see problems related to heat and cold exposure. And we know some customers that do things that make us cringe and somehow get away with it! But we don't recommend those actions to the sane among us! After all, ukuleles are hand-crafted instruments made from natural materials.

Fourth, if you need an instrument for "special" conditions, match up the right ukulele with your needs. We offer the "round-back" models with composite bodies for those times when having a "tough" instrument is a priority. They are available in concert and baritone sizes.

If you forsee abuse in your instrument's future, such as much heavy traveling, laminated woods usually are tougher than solid woods, although solid woods normally have superior sound. Your dealer can help here.

If you like the beach but are worried about your "koa baby," maybe it is time to consider a second instrument that you can handle a bit more freely and reduce your concern. Lots of folks have more than one ukulele so you wouldn't be doing anything unusual!

Go a little crazy on your traveling model and have fun with design or color! Ukuleles are supposed to be fun, after all, and a good traveling uke is generally inexpensive, but should play well despite it's price. At least if it is an Ohana Ukulele it will. We'll make sure of it!
